Paper Play Challenge – Autumn Leaves

26 September 2011

Today’s blog posting is our entry in the Paper Play Challenge of  ”Autumn Leaves”, how could we resist featuring PaperArtsy stamps and dies, they are so great to create with. Below is the step by step tutorial to inspire you.

A little info on the PaperArtsy stamps and dies first. The stamps are on EZ mount cling film so this means you can take them straight out of the pack and attach to an acrylic block. The stamp sheets from Paper Artsy are 5″ x 7″ and co-ordinate with their fantastic range of dies.  You can cut the dies from a range of products like Card, Metal, Grunge paper, Cardboard etc, then stamp the co-ordinating image on top of the die cut shape. Perfect for embellishments to cards, scrapping layouts and altered art pieces. The links below take you straight to the product on our website.

All stamps used are from PaperArtsy stamp sheet 11o5 for  just $24.95 AU you get 9 cling mounted stamps that have multiple uses.

We also used the 3 different sized   Oak Leaf dies (small $12.95, medium $16.95 & large $18.95),  keep reading to see how we used the medium die cut leaf  as it is not on the above stamp plate.

Die cut from natural kraft coloured card stock 2 of each small, medium & large leaves.

On the medium die cut  leaf stamp with Archival Ink Jet Black (this ink will not bleed when the leaves are distressed) with the large  stamp, you can use any stamp at all and either keep stamping untill the die cut is covered with stamped images or leave with no stamping on at all.

Stamp  the corresponding stamps on the large and small leaf from the stamp set.

Use the small background stamp from same set and Distress Ink “Forest Moss” to stamp the entire background of a A5 folded kraft card.

Repeat stamp in Distress Ink “Wild Honey” .

Then repeat in Distress Ink “Rusty Hinge”.

Colour the leaves with the same Distress inks that was used on the background of the card (a foam blending tool is best for this). Shape the leaves and staple the leaves together.

Stick leaves onto card base and add a flower, this one is from the Prima Vermont – Bella Notte Collection.

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and have learnt a little about the great range of PaperArtsy stamps and dies!!

Have a great day, Lisa and Elaine @ Destination Art

Monotone Steampunk

22 September 2011

Todays  is “Monotone Steampunk”.  In this card we have also featured some recycling ideas along with extending your stamp stash.

We first make our own stamps from Tim’s Bigz die Gadget Gears with fun foam that has adhesive on the back and then stuck them to some recycled packaging.

Also from packaging we cut a mask with the On The Edge die Steampunk.

The gears were then stamped with Adirondack Paint dabber Hazelnut, and then Distress Ink Walnut Stain was use with the mask to finish the background.

Cardboard from an old box had its top layer stripped off it to reveal the corrugations and was die cut with Gadget Gears then coloured with Distress Stains Vintage Photo and highlighted with Distress Ink Walnut Stain. Hope you enjoyed this post and will give you some ideas to make the most from your dies. Elaine & Lisa @ Destination Art.

Beauty in under 10 minutes

11 September 2011

Today we bring you another of our 10 minute and under cards. The items that are the focus of this card are Tim Holtz’s Movers and Shapers Die “Mini Bird and Cage”, Crafty Individuals Stamp CI-003 Laced Edge Postcard CollageDistress Stickles in Frayed Burlap and Broken China, Distress Inks in Frayed Burlap and Broken China.  All these items are available on our website, the underlined link will take you straight to the item.

Now, firstly we must point out that this card is a quick card due to the fact that we had already pre-inked the birdcage and bird dies and applied Stickles. We did this in a batch which is a great idea as then you have them on hand ready to use for projects without having to wait for the Stickles to dry.  Of course you can do this with allsorts of dies and use many different colours.  This bird and birdcage die is just a lovely size for a standard card.

For todays creation we used a folded A5 black card.  The beautiful patterned paper used is from 7Gyspies Conservatory 6×6 Paper Pad. After cutting to size we inked around the edges with Ranger Sepia Ink using a Foam Blending Tool.

Next up was to stamp out the “Laced Edge Postcard Collage” onto white cardstock with Sepia Archival Ink. One of the things we really like about this stamp is that the image included a nice straight edged border.  You can of course cut this away if you don’t want the line but for this card it worked well as all we had to do was cut around the border and leave a small amount of white cardstock on each edge.  We then distressed around the edges still with Sepia Ink using the foam blending tool.

A quick application of double sided tape pieced all the elements together and a small word “Beauty” from Darkroom Door “Wordstrips” was edged in Distress Ink Broken China and added.  Have a wonderful day, Lisa and Elaine @ Destination Art

Back to basics – masking!

7 September 2011

We’ve noticed so many new subscribers to our blog and we thought it might be nice to produce a post on something that is pretty old school and basic, but maybe something many of you have not tried before. The technique is ”Masking”, it will revolutionise the way you look at your stamps, creates amazing effects that are easy and free and this is how you do it!

Firstly for our project, we have chosen our base which is an ATC. We have cut one easily by using the ATC die cut from Tim Holtz’s ATC’s & Corners die. This gives you wonderful rounded edges too which we particularly love in this die.  Next we stamped our main image directly onto the ATC which is the “Pocket Watch” from Stamp-It stamp sheet siset018. To MASK and give the effect of “layers” ie: the coins you notice are behind the pocket watch, you will need to stamp your image again onto scrap paper. We cut around this scrap image and it has become our mask.  The mask protects your underneath image so as we placed the pocket watch mask over the already stamped out pocket watch, we were able to stamp the bottom coin, when the mask was lifted you can see the dimensional effect in play. The coin is perfectly sitting behind the pocket watch very neatly.

We then cut a coin mask and continued to stamp and mask them to give them a tumbling effect.

To avoid colouring the pocket watch but to add colour to the background, we used the pocket watch mask again, holding it in place whilst the background of the ATC was coloured using Distress Ink “Peeled Paint” & “Forest Moss”. The finishing touch Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi Medium Gloss was added to the clock face.

Hope you enjoyed this back to basic post. Hugs from Elaine & Lisa @ Destination Art

MIA & Play Date Cafe Challenge 97

6 September 2011

Hi folks, did you miss us?? We’ve been AWOL for a few days due to some issues we are having uploading new updates on our wordpress blog.  It’s been a frustrating process that our host servers are trying to fix.  We have been unable to do any upgrades for months now and glitches are starting to occur in our blog backend.  The only way they think it’s going to be fixed is with a time consuming one process, hence why we have not been around  for a few days.  The problem is still not rectified so we could be offline again unable to post in the next few days.  Please continue to check back because as soon as we get the go ahead, we have some great postings to share.

Onto today’s post, it is for The Play Date Cafe Challenge and the theme is A Splash of Colour “Red”. For this card we embossed an A5 white card with Tim’s “Bingo” embossing folder, love Tim’s texture fade embossing folders – they leave such a beautiful crisp impression. An ATC was die cut from Tim’s ATC’s & Corners die, then  “Bingo” collage was stamped onto it from the Creative Collages stamp plate. Adirondack Paint Dabber Red Pepper was used on a basic circle stamp to cover the letter 47, a strip of ribbon was threaded through 2 x split rings before sticking onto the card.

Of course, as always the items highlighted above are available on our website. Have fun creating Elaine & Lisa @ Destination Art.

The ABC & 123 were die cut from Sizzlit Alpha Chip Block & Vintage Marketplace Dies from a scrap of Ten Seconds Studio metal. The book was  cut by folding paper in half and die cut using Movers and Shapers die Mini Tickets before stamping, aging and stapling.
