Here is a simple 15 minute 5″ x 7″ journal cover, an easy project for gifts. First on a piece of white cardstock, Glimmermist in olive vine was sprayed over Glimmermist Screens in the Decorative Corners design. Then the screen was lifted and we gave a few minutes for the glimmermist to dry. The next step was stamping with the Screen Prints Regal Classic Accents stamp in Distress Ink Black Soot over the area that the Glimmermist Screen masked on the cardstock (this is the white area). The black ink was then zapped with a heat tool and Distress Ink in Spiced Marmalade was added with a blending tool around the edges of the cardstock. We finished off the cover by corner rounding the edges of the cardstock with a punch, adding a scalloped border element and a Flashcard word from Collections. Attach the piece directly onto the cover of the journal with double sided tape. Voila!
Heidi at http://shabbychicpapirskatter.blogspot.com/ offers vintage images like this gorgeous sweet girl on her blog. EVERYDAY there is a new vintage delight available for you to download and use free in your art. Thanks Heidi!!
Thanks so much to Jeanette who attended our last workshop “Mini House Parade” for emailing her finished creation from the day. All the girls who came along played with various embellishments along with verdigris and rust finishes to make their canvases and they turned out great!!! The houses needed 24 hours before they could be attached into the frame of the canvas so we didn’t take photos on the day but Jeanettes masterpiece shows just what fun everyone had!! Thanks Jeanette for sharing!
We showed you a sample canvas a few days ago using the Tim Holtz filmstrip ribbon on its own as a embellishment. Today our sample shows you how you can add ephemera and photos behind the filmstrip to create a fantastic and tailored look (click on the photo for a larger view of the project). You get oodles and oodles and oodles of filmstrip in the small cannister it comes in so you will be able to get many projects out of the one purchase. We are going to be exploring ways on how to work with the filmstrip ribbon on our demo day in Albany on March 6th. If you would like to attend please email us at tedep@westnet.com.au
We are constantly coming across some great art blogs out there and this one is no exception. Run by Amy, Paper and Gluestix is a blog dedicated to ATC’s and more.
Amy incorporates vintage cutout imagery into her pieces that make them whimsical and interesting. So if you have a stash of printed images (like we do) or copies of old photos and you are looking for ways to use them in your art, Amy will certainly inspire you with her style, like this very sweet ATC, “true to life”. Visit Amy’s blog today at http://heartnsoul-amy.blogspot.com/. Enjoy!
(Click on the picture to open it large in a new window) A 7 x 5 canvas board decorated with Filmstrip Ribbon, Key, Swivel Clasp, Distress Inks and Stamps from the Tim Holtz range. The filmstrip ribbon is one of our latest aquisitions and is yum, yum, yum… you can staple and punch through it easily so you can add brads and ribbons. Lots of playing with this fine product we can see coming up!!

Have you got a bottle of Tim Holtz’s distress paint at home that you haven’t used yet because you’re not sure what to do with it? Then it’s time to bust it out and have a play. This ATC shows distress paint on both chipboard (butterfly) and grungeboard (heart). Distress paint can be left alone after cracking or you can do cool things with it – like you see with the butterfly. This crazed effect is made by simply swiping an inkpad across the dried paint, then wiping and working the excess ink into the paint crack. As you can see we used a light coloured paint and a darker coloured inkpad but you can also do the reverse of that too and come up with some cool finishes. Tim has a great video on using distress paint as a resist and it is well worth watching as he also walks you through tips and techniques on getting the best and most out of your Distress Paint. http://www.timholtz.com/vid_crackle-resist.htm
For inspiring ideas like this “Book of Hearts” using Darkroom Door stamped images, look no further than Godelieve Tijskens blog http://stampingmathilda.blogspot.com/. There’s always something new and fresh on her blog and if you click the ”Darkroom Door” under Godelieve’s label cloud (RH side of blog) you will see all her DD projects (and there are quite a few!).
These 2 samples are made with mostly unmounted images from Darkroom Door. Oh! Hmmm.. maybe there may be a couple of Tim Holtz images in there too along the way! The metal embellishments on both are Spellbinder Dies that have been run through copper and then brushed with a verdigris base and activator! The backgrounds really stand out and they are achieved simply by swiping an inkpad inside your cuttlebug folder before you place your cardstock in.
DIRECTIONS : Start with your cuttlebug folder in front of you with the Cuttlebug writing at the top, totally flip over the folder, open and swipe your inkpad around the bottom part of the folder (in other words you are inking the underside of the folder piece that holds the writing, place cardstock face down and close folder. Run through the cuttlebug and voila!! Thanks for joining us!!
